Themes

Identity
One of the main themes is to gradually reveal the pasts’ of each main character, and several minor characters. Catching small glimpses of flash backs every now and again, allowing the reader to put the bigger picture together themselves. The main goal will be to give enough information so they are not left in the dark, but lacking enough so the ending is not easily predicted in each case.

Friendship
The one thing that unites the group (despite their obvious differences) is the infinite strength of their friendship. At times it may seem more of a duty to the times past than a real friendship, but they always pull through for each other no matter what we throw at them. Testing their friendship with difficult situations will be the best way to bring out the power of their friendship.

Isolation/Being Alone
Trying to gain the readers pity without directly appealing for sympathy is another main goal. Without dramatizing the harshness of the past we will attempt to stir compassion from the viewer.

Personality Traits: Christian often takes on the ‘hero’ role, even though most of the time it ends up getting himself and those close to him in trouble. When he and Brendon get together they act as the comic relief. He is not afraid to speak his mind, but rarely expresses his emotions/feelings.

Personality Traits: Brendon is not afraid to speak his mind about anything, often saying things without thinking, which gets him into a lot of trouble. He loves being the center of attention and hates being left out. His childish exterior is most of the time, and act to bring us a breath of fresh air. He can snap out of his naïveté in an instant is the time calls for it. He is very curious and his slightly perverted nature might be put down to this.

Personality Traits: Laura is ahort tempered, often taking her anger out on Brendon and/or Christian violently. She is afraid to show her emotions and feelings, locking herself way whenever she is upset. She is very matter of fact and strait to the point, rarely wasting her words. Much like the angel and devils on the shoulder, Laura has many inside ‘Laura’ personalities with different opinions.

Personality Traits: Russell is one of the most popular guys in school. He hates it when people don’t understand his friendship choices. He uses his good looks, intelligence and sporting abilities to get what he wants/ needs. He often lectures others and tries to teach them about trivial science things, but he gets hurt when people show no interest. He can be snobbish at times, but he really has no concern for social status at all.
